Lavrov: Russia will announce upcoming direct talks with Ukraine very soon

The Kremlin will soon announce the next round of direct talks between Russia and Ukraine.

According to foreign media, the news was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a security summit in Moscow, after weeks of stalled peace negotiations.

The Russian Foreign Minister also reiterated that Moscow will insist that Kiev repeal all "discriminatory laws" in Ukraine in the new round of peace negotiations.

"In these negotiations on May 16 in Istanbul, when they resumed, we insisted on the abolition of all discriminatory laws and we will continue to do so in the next round of direct negotiations, which we will announce in the very near future," he said, writes A2 CNN.

"I want to emphasize that we have always, for many years, before the special military operation and after its start, proposed and continue to propose to the Ukrainian side the solution of all problems, which are becoming more and more serious every year, through dialogue and diplomacy," he added.

The negotiations in Istanbul, which Lavrov mentions, were the first direct talks between Russia and Ukraine in more than three years.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy flew to Turkey for talks and challenged Vladimir Putin to meet him there, but the Russian leader did not do so, sending a small delegation there.

The talks failed to achieve Ukraine's goal of a full and unconditional ceasefire, but both sides agreed to exchange 1,000 prisoners of war each, in the largest exchange of the conflict. The exchange began on Friday. (A2 Televizion)
