Middle East, Israel sends negotiators to Qatar for next ceasefire talks

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent negotiators to Qatar on Sunday to continue ceasefire talks with Hamas.

This next step is being taken after the completion of the fifth hostage-prisoner exchange, provided for in the agreement.

The AFP news agency reports that Netanyahu reiterated his pledge to "crush" Hamas and free all hostages still in their hands. He described the militant group as a group of "monsters" after the release of three more hostages who were barely able to stand and were forced to speak on stage.

The hospital where the three Israeli hostages released on Saturday were treated said Or Levy and Eli Sharabi were in a "serious health condition," while Ohad Ben Ami was in a "serious nutritional condition."

Of the 183 prisoners released by Israel in exchange, the Palestinian Prisoners' Club advocacy group said seven required hospitalization "as a result of the brutality they were subjected to" in prison.

Rights groups and whistleblowers speak of a policy of "institutionalized abuse" in Israeli prisons and detention centers. (A2 Televizion)
