Ceasefire, Hamas releases 3 hostages in exchange for 183 Palestinian prisoners

Hamas has released three more Israeli hostages. Eli Sharabi, Ohad Ben Ami and Or Levy, who were taken hostage on October 7, 2023, were released today by the militant group.

The three men were paraded before a crowd in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, and the center of world media attention before being handed over to the International Red Cross.

Sharabi was captured from Kibbutz Beeri, a communal farm that was one of the hardest-hit areas in the Hamas attack. His wife, Lianne, and his teenage daughters were killed by the militants.

Ben Ami, a father of three, was taken hostage by the same community where he worked as an accountant. His wife, who was also captured, was released during a brief ceasefire in November 2023.

Levi, a computer programmer from the city of Rishon Lezion, was pulled out by militants from a bomb shelter near the Nova music festival in southern Israel. His wife was killed in the attack.

In exchange, Israel says it will release 183 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.

The terms of the six-week first phase of the deal require Hamas to gradually release a total of 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for about 1,900 Palestinian prisoners. (A2 Televizion)
