US President Donald Trump announced this evening that within the next two or three weeks, American officials will send letters to various countries, in which they will describe "how much they will pay to do business" with Washington.
The statement came before he departed Abu Dhabi, the final stop on his four-day tour of the Gulf. Trump did not elaborate on what exactly he meant.
Trump's statement comes as China and the United States announced a ceasefire in their trade war on Monday, following talks between their representatives in Switzerland. Trump referred to this development, as well as the separate trade deal he signed with Britain.
" At some point over the next two or three weeks, I think Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick will be sending out letters telling people how much they will pay to do business with the United States ," he said.
Trump further said that US officials are unable to meet with " all 150 countries that want a deal " with Washington.
Last week, the US reached a limited trade deal with Britain. Under it, 10% tariffs on British exports will remain in place, but higher tariffs on steel and cars will be reduced. (A2 Televizion)
