Car crashes into crowd in Los Angeles, several seriously injured

At least 28 people have been injured after a vehicle crashed into a crowd of people on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles.

According to foreign media, seven people were injured and six of them are in serious condition, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) said.

The incident reportedly happened at 02:00 local time (09:00 GMT) near a nightclub on North Vermont Avenue, near the intersection with Santa Monica Boulevard, which is famous for its nightlife.

One of the patients had a gunshot wound, LAFD Capt. Adam VanGerpen said, and eyewitnesses described hearing gunshots. "This is under investigation by police," he added, according to A2 CNN.

Emergency services at the scene in Los Angeles, where a car is said to have crashed into a crowd of people.

Captain VanGerpen also said the person with the gunshot wound could be the driver, but added "we haven't confirmed that yet."

Footage from the scene shows a gray car on the sidewalk with debris scattered on the ground and a large police presence.

It is currently unclear what caused the vehicle to enter the crowd, writes A2 CNN.

The victims have all been taken to hospitals or trauma centers, Captain VanGerpen told reporters at the scene.

He said most of those in the crowd were women waiting to enter the nightclub, A2 CNN reports.

"It was a very chaotic scene," said Captain VanGerpen, adding that "many passersby near the club came out to help people." (A2 Televizion)
