Mediterranean on high alert for Iranian missiles: Pentagon meeting, Erdogan and

The foreign ministers of Germany, France and Britain are expected to make diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the conflict between Israel and Iran tomorrow, when they hold nuclear talks with their Iranian counterpart in Geneva.

According to Reuters, the ministers will first meet with the European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaia Kallas, at Germany's permanent mission in Geneva, before holding a joint meeting with Iran's foreign minister.

The turn that the conflict between Tel Aviv and Tehran has taken is worrying European capitals, while France and Germany have already increased security measures as a precaution at points of Israeli interest, just in case. Although Iran has launched far fewer than the 1,000 missiles it had set as a ceiling in retaliation against Israel, the availability of ballistic missiles from Tehran has put Mediterranean states at risk, which are trying to develop countermeasures, but also remain vigilant, monitoring developments closely.

Even Turkey, which has one of the strongest defense industries internationally, has focused its attention on Iran's movements, with the country's President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, focusing on ballistic missiles.

"We are now planning the production of missiles to increase our reserves - medium and long-range - to a reliable deterrent level," said President Erdogan, commenting for his part that "we will soon achieve a defensive capability that no one will dare to question . "

"We have entered the phase of producing our systems in quantities that really increase our deterrence capability," he announced, concluding that "if you are not strong politically, socially, economically and militarily, you lack deterrence capability - and you are vulnerable . "

It is worth noting that Turkey's first short-range ballistic missile system, Tayfun, developed by the Turkish defense company Roketsan, has successfully completed a series of tests, while it can easily reach a range of 280 kilometers and has a maximum range of 800 kilometers.

In addition, its supersonic cruise speed is not affected by air defense systems, while collateral losses are reduced due to high accuracy, as stated by the manufacturer, underlining the anti-jamming capabilities of this particular missile.

Erdogan's emphasis on ballistic missiles is directly related to the shape the war in the Middle East is taking, especially as both warring parties focus on neutralizing strategic targets, such as air, naval, and port infrastructure, along with strike attacks.

In this context, and with more and more European countries mobilizing to take preventive measures in the face of the developing situation in the Middle East, a meeting was held yesterday at the Pentagon on the topic of updating the country's air defense.

The meeting was attended by the political and military leadership of the Greek Ministry of National Defense, with the presence of Nikos Dendias, with the aim of assessing the situation, but also to review the country's air defense framework, in line with the readiness observed in the wider region.

Cyprus is already moving on a path of preventive measures, improving the level of surveillance of critical infrastructure, at a time when Iranian ballistic missiles are largely visible to residents in Lebanon. (A2 Televizion)
