The Israeli military announced that in a recent overnight strike it targeted the nuclear reactor in the Arak region of Iran and that it also struck what it described as a nuclear weapons development facility in the Natanz region.
Among the Iranian nuclear facilities is a heavy water research nuclear reactor, the construction of which has not yet been completed by Iran, which was originally called Arak and now Khodab.
The attack was preceded by a warning in Persian from an Israeli military spokesman, Israeli Army Radio reported. Residents of Arak and neighboring Khodab were urged to seek shelter in anticipation of the attack.
The Arak facilities, which are part of Iran's nuclear infrastructure, are located southwest of Tehran. At Natanz, which was previously hit during Israeli airstrikes on Iran, which have been ongoing for six days, Iran has built a complex at the heart of its nuclear program, which includes two enrichment plants.
Heavy water reactors pose a proliferation risk because they can easily produce plutonium, which, like enriched uranium, can be used to make the core of an atomic bomb.
Meanwhile, on the other side, reports in Israel indicate at least 32 people were injured in Israel from Iranian attacks, two of whom are in serious condition.
In a statement, a spokesman for Israel's emergency services agency said "two people are in serious condition" and 30 "slightly injured," adding that teams were providing first aid to many injured people in various locations.
Reports of injuries came after Iran struck the Soroka hospital in Beersheba, southern Israel, causing "serious damage."
Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that Israel would make the tyrants in Tehran pay dearly for the attack on the Soroka hospital. "This morning, the Iranian terrorist dictators fired missiles at the Soroka hospital in Beersheba and at civilians in the central part of the country. We will make the tyrants in Tehran pay dearly ," he stressed in a post on 'X'.
Meanwhile, Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Sharon Haskel called the Iranian attack on Soroka "deliberate and criminal." "Iran just hit Soroka Hospital in Beersheba with a ballistic missile. Not a military base. A hospital. This is the main medical center for the entire Negev region of Israel. Deliberate. Criminal. Political target. The world must respond," Haskel wrote in the 'X'.
