The Monza prosecutor's office in Italy has opened an investigation into the death of Davide Garufi, the 21-year-old TikToker, who committed suicide on March 19 at his home in Sesto San Giovanni, in the province of Milan.
Italian media reports that investigators are examining his conversations, social media accounts and mobile phone, which according to initial information and evidence has been the victim of online bullying and homophobic insults. Therefore, the Carabinieri do not rule out the involvement of third parties who may have pushed Garufi to commit the extreme act.
The victim had shared with his followers on social media, over the years, the story of his gender transition, from Davide to Alexandra. This is a common problem for many young people who talk about their sexual orientation online. According to initial investigations, he had family problems, teenage difficulties and disagreements with his parents, which had worsened around the time he began hormonal treatment for sex change.
It was during this difficult period that the first homophobic insults began to appear under the victim's posts. As emerged from the initial information and the testimony of a neighbor whom the victim had trusted, Garufi suffered greatly from all the hate messages and bullying he received on social media.
Garufi took his own life on the night between Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 March at his home in Sesto San Giovanni. He shot himself with the service pistol of her father, who works as a security guard. The dynamics of the facts, for investigators, are quite clear, but opening the file for failure to possess a firearm and for abetting suicide is a necessary act to continue the autopsy and the relevant investigations. Social conversations and the Tiktok account are being examined. The judges have also ordered the seizure of the mobile phone to verify any frequent contact. The investigation is focusing on finding third parties who may have contributed to the suicide, by exerting pressure on the victim's fragility and inciting her to commit the act. (A2 Televizion)
