At least one of the 242 people on board an Air India plane that crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport appears to have survived.
This is reported by the BBC, which quotes Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik, who told the news agency ANI that there is one survivor, who had been sitting in seat 11A on board the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.
Speaking to Indian news agency ANI, Malik said the survivor "is in hospital and is receiving medical assistance."
The flight manifest released earlier by authorities shows that the passenger in seat 11A was Vishesh Kumar Ramesh, a British citizen.
Indian media reports that they spoke to Vishesh at the hospital and he shared his boarding pass showing his name and seat 11A.
"Thirty seconds after takeoff, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so fast," the survivor said. (A2 Televizion)
