US President Donald Trump addressed the US Congress last night for the first time since returning to power in January.

Trump outlined his vision for his second term in office, declaring that "America is back" and he is "just getting started."

It was the longest presidential address to lawmakers in US history, lasting about an hour and 40 minutes.

Trump began his speech by saying the American dream is "bigger and better than ever before" as he had taken "relentless action" to already achieve more than some administrations achieve in years.

He presented a list of his actions since beginning his second term, declaring that the US would "never wake up again" after leaving the World Health Organization, withdrawing from the Paris climate accords and naming the "Gulf of America".

However, his data was met with derision from Democrats, with Representative Al Green refusing to be silenced.

Green was standing and yelling at Trump, gesturing at the President with his cane.

Other Democrats waved signs with slogans reading "fake" and "Musk steals." Some wore blue and yellow in solidarity with Ukraine.

The clash between Trump and Democrats continued throughout the speech, with the president at one point attacking Senator Elizabeth Warren, reprising his 2018 taunt of calling her "Pocahontas."

There was also a special mention for Elon Musk's government efficiency department, DOGE, which has already controversially cut thousands of jobs.

Trump claimed that the billionaire's efforts were saving the country billions of dollars by cutting waste and fraud.

"Thank you very much, we appreciate it," the president told him, writes A2 CNN.

In one of the strangest moments from the speech, Trump blamed former President Joe Biden for the rising costs of eggs.

He said his administration had inherited "an economic disaster" and that under Biden the price of eggs was "out of control."

The main reason why egg prices have risen to a record average of $4.95 (£3.85) per dozen this month is that more than 166 million birds have been slaughtered to limit the spread of bird flu that has ravaged US poultry flocks.

The Panama Canal and Greenland were also discussed.

The president said America aimed to reclaim the famous shipping passage, which it relinquished control of in 1999, and reiterated its ambition to take over the vast Danish territory.

Addressing Greenlanders, he said: "We strongly support your right to determine your own future, and if you choose, we welcome you to the United States of America."

"We need Greenland for national security and even international security," he said. "And we're working with all the actors involved to try to achieve that... and I think we will achieve it, one way or another."

There was less mention of Trump's tariffs than expected after a second day of market turmoil, and when the president touched on them, many Republicans sat down, a sign of how his import taxes have divided the party.

"Tariffs will make America rich again and make America great again," he said.

"And it's happening. And it's going to happen pretty quickly. There's going to be a little bit of a disruption, but we're okay with that. It won't take long," he said, A2 CNN writes.

Trump saved his words about Ukraine until the end, telling members of Congress that he had received a letter from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier in the day.

According to the letter, the Ukrainian president said he was now ready to work under Trump's "strong leadership" to end the war and "come to the negotiating table as soon as possible."

"I appreciate him sending this letter," Trump said, writes A2 CNN.

It remains to be seen whether the letter will mark any kind of softening in the complicated relationship between Trump and Zelenskyy following their Oval Office showdown last week. (A2 Televizion)
