Istanbul has faced another day of clashes between protesters and security forces. Thousands of people took to the streets during a protest march against the arrest of Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu.
In a video published by the Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet, police can be seen using pepper spray to push back a group of protesters who wanted to head towards the central Taksim Square, a symbolic site for protests in the city, which has been completely surrounded and guarded by law enforcement for days.
According to the leader of the main opposition CHP party, over 300,000 people took part in the demonstration outside Istanbul's city hall. The city's mayor, Ekrem Imamoglu, is in custody on corruption and terrorism charges.
