UN calls on Israel: Horrifying levels of death in Gaza, allow aid to enter!

The United Nations has asked Israel to allow increased aid levels to Gaza.

According to foreign media, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said, "All the aid authorized so far amounts to a teaspoon of help, when a huge flood of assistance is required."

"The needs are great and the obstacles are daunting," he continued, writes A2 CNN.

"Strict quotas, bans on key supplies and unnecessary delays are being imposed," Guterres said.

"Meanwhile, the Israeli military offensive is intensifying with horrific levels of death and destruction. Four-fifths of Gaza territory is a no-go zone for the people of Gaza," he continued.

Guterres has called for a permanent ceasefire, the immediate release of hostages and full humanitarian access.

The UN has the personnel, distribution networks and community relations needed, Guterres says.

He says there are 9,000 trucks with supplies waiting to enter Gaza, writes A2 CNN.

Recall that Israel imposed a blockade on all supplies starting March 2, saying Hamas was seizing supplies for its fighters, an accusation the group denies.

Netanyahu on Wednesday allowed only 100 trucks carrying baby food and medical supplies into Gaza.

The UN has said that a quarter of Gaza's 2.3 million residents are at risk of starvation, writes A2 CNN.

The healthcare system in Gaza has barely functioned, with most medical facilities out of order, due to repeated Israeli military attacks, raids and a ban on the entry of medical supplies, doctors say. (A2 Televizion)
