US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is the architect who would take over the attacks on Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Hegseth sent messages about the timing of a planned assassination of a Houthi militant in Yemen on March 15, as well as other details of upcoming waves of U.S. strikes, according to a new release of Signal conversations between members of the Trump administration.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth writes that F-18 fighter jets will strike once at 1:45 p.m. and again at 2:10 p.m. There is also talk of drone strikes. "The terrorist is at his known location," Hegseth writes. Then he adds: "Good luck to our fighters."
Hegseth has repeatedly denied sending messages about war plans, as President Donald Trump's administration tries to contain recent revelations by The Atlantic magazine.
The Trump administration said Tuesday that no classified information was shared in the conversation, confusing Democrats and former US officials who consider the leak a scandal.
Senior US national security officials have classified systems that are intended to be used to communicate secret materials.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe said Tuesday that National Security Advisor Mike Waltz created the Signal chat for unclassified coordination and that teams would be "provided with further information on the high side for high-level communication."
Trump dismissed the incident as a disgrace. His spokeswoman, Caroline Leavitt, said that "no war plans" were discussed in the chat group and "no classified information was exchanged." (A2 Televizion)
