President Donald Trump says he plans to end sanctions on Syria, following talks with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish leader Tayyip Erdogan.
According to foreign media, Trump's statements come as the White House revealed that the US president will meet with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa tomorrow.
Trump said that US sanctions on Syria, imposed during the rule of former dictator Bashar al Assad, were "brutal and crippling" but served an "important function" at the time, writes A2 CNN.
"But now is Syria's time to shine. It's time to shine. We're taking it all away," Trump said. "Good luck Syria, show us something very special," he added.
Yesterday, Trump hinted that he could "help Syria" because the current sanctions on the country "don't give them much of an advantage." (A2 Televizion)
