Pope Francis met today at the Holy See with the head of the Bektashi Community of Tirana, Haxhi Dede Edmond Brahimaj, in the hope of an interfaith dialogue. Italian media report that the incident this morning when he fell in the Santa Marta house and suffered a bruise on his right forearm, without fractures, did not prevent the Holy Father from continuing his agenda.
"No to violent logic, interreligious dialogue can build the future. In these difficult times, we are all called to reject the logic of violence and division, to embrace that of encounter, friendship and cooperation in search of the common good. In fact, our religious convictions help us to embrace more clearly these fundamental values, specific to our common humanity, allowing the different voices to form together a noble and harmonious song" underlined the Holy Father. Praising the Bektashi community in our country, Pope Francis emphasized that religious harmony can serve as a bridge of reconciliation between East and West.
“I think with gratitude of the many moments of fraternal encounters that have taken place between the Bektashi community and the Catholic Church, such as the prayer for peace in the Balkans in 1993 and in the world. The Day of Prayer for Peace in Assisi 2011. Furthermore, the inauguration of the Bektashi temple in Tirana, in 2015, was a particularly fruitful moment of rapprochement and friendship. I am convinced that the Bektashi Community, together with other Muslims, Christians and all other believers present in Albania, can serve as a bridge of reconciliation and mutual enrichment not only within your country, but also between East and West. Despite the challenges of the present, interreligious dialogue has a unique role in building a future of reconciliation, justice and peace that the peoples of the world, and especially the young, so fervently desire ,” the Pope addressed the Albanian delegation.
