Talks between representatives of the United States and Russia in Saudi Arabia have concluded.
The meeting between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Moscow's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Saudi Arabia lasted four hours, writes A2 CNN.
They were then seen leaving for a short break, which turned into a working lunch. The American delegation has not yet provided details about the conversation, which they said focused on thawing relations frozen since the start of the war in Ukraine.
Diplomats from Russia have explained that "a very constructive and very positive dialogue has begun."
"Unlike the Biden administration, which never tried to listen to Russia's position, this was a clear attempt to start a dialogue to understand Moscow's position and discuss things we can agree on," said Yuri Ushakov, an adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin, writes A2 CNN.
He added that the meeting was not bad, as the parties held a serious discussion on all issues, hinting that Ukraine was also discussed.
“We have agreed to take into account each other’s interests and develop bilateral relations, as Moscow and Washington are interested in this,” the Russian official stressed. He further added that the parties agreed that a “special team of negotiators will establish contacts at the appropriate time.” (A2 Televizion)
