US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have clashed over the war in Ukraine at the White House.
According to foreign media, US Vice President JD Vance was also present at the meeting.
Trump told the Ukrainian leader that he "talked too much" and that he was "gambling with World War III."
Amid Zelenskyy's visit to the White House, Vance said one way to ensure peace between Russia and Ukraine was through U.S. engagement in diplomacy, including talking with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to White House notes of the meeting.
"We signed an agreement with Putin. He didn't keep it, what kind of diplomacy are you talking about?" Zelensky told Trump.
"Very disrespectful," Vance said of Zelenskyy's comment, while Trump noted that Ukraine is "not in a good position" and is gambling with World War III.
"Did you say thank you once?" Vance asked Zelensky, A2 CNN reports. "You've talked a lot," Trump told Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy traveled to the US on Friday to meet with Trump at the White House after the latter said on Thursday that a peace negotiation to end the war between Ukraine and Russia is in the final stages.
The Trump administration is also working to sign an agreement with Ukraine that would allow the US access to Ukrainian minerals, in exchange for the support the US has provided to Kiev since the outbreak of the war in 2022, as part of the peace agreement.
Trump also noted during his comments to the media that a trilateral meeting between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the US, would not be a "love match" and would likely be difficult.
"They don't like each other, I can tell you it's not a love match," Trump told the media when asked how he envisions a trilateral meeting between the US-Russia-Ukraine. (A2 Televizion)
