President Macron announces plan for 'security force' in Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that a "security force" in Ukraine will act as a security guarantee and will be deployed the day after a peace deal.

According to foreign media, the term is different from the "peacekeeping" force that has been discussed so far.

According to Macron, the idea was for British and French forces at the request of Ukraine, writes A2 CNN.

He said the force is in a planning phase, but that it would not be a replacement for peacekeeping troops that would be deployed in the event of a possible ceasefire.

The French leader says that several countries will contribute to this force, but that it will not be on the line of contact, but rather will be deployed in "strategic areas."

Macron also added that not every country in the coalition of the willing would be involved in decision-making on this initiative.

"It's not unanimous," he says, adding: "We don't need unanimity to achieve it."

"This security force should not replace the peacekeeping forces on the contact line or the powerful Ukrainian army," Macron concluded, adding that there would be further discussions. (A2 Televizion)
