A tourism business in Greenland's capital, Nuuk, has canceled a visit by Usha Vance, the wife of US Vice President JD Vance, amid concerns about a hidden agenda from the Trump administration.
Initially, Usha Vance's visit was billed as a family trip to experience local culture and take part in a traditional dog sled race called Avannaata Qimussersu. However, the situation changed when it was learned that she would be accompanied by National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, causing anger among local leaders, including the prime minister of Greenland.
The situation worsened further when JD Vance announced that he would also join his wife on the trip, saying he didn’t want to miss out on “ all the fun .” After that, the Tupilak Travel souvenir shop, where Usha Vance had planned to stop, refused to host her.
“ We initially said she was welcome, but after further consideration we decided to cancel the visit ,” the store announced on Facebook. “ We cannot accept this hidden agenda and do not want to be part of a media spectacle. No thanks. Greenland belongs to Greenlanders. ”
As a result, Vance's plans changed, and now he, along with his wife, will visit the US Space Force military base in Pituffik, on the northwest coast of the island, instead of participating in traditional local events.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen told Danish media that it was "positive" that the Americans had canceled their visit to the Greenlandic society and would limit themselves to their military base.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has reiterated his intention to take control of Greenland, declaring: " We need Greenland for international security. We have it ."
Vance, in a video posted online, justified his visit by saying he wanted to “ see Greenland’s security up close ” and that “ revitalizing security there is important for the security of the entire world .” (A2 Televizion)
