President Trump halts funding for Palestinian refugee agency

The White House has released the text of two new presidential actions signed by President Donald Trump yesterday.

According to foreign media, the first is a memorandum instructing the US government to impose "maximum pressure" on Iran.

This memorandum states that the US must end "the previous administration's tolerance of Iran's threats to American citizens and companies" and that Trump "will not tolerate Iran possessing a nuclear weapons capability."

Trump also signed an executive order extending a funding freeze on the Palestinian refugee agency, Unrwa.

"Departments and executive agencies shall not use any funds for a contribution, grant or other payment to Unrwa," the order states, writes A2 CNN.

He says the agency "has allegedly been infiltrated by members of groups long designated by the [US] as foreign terrorist organizations" and that its employees were involved in the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.

Israel has accused 18 Unrwa employees of taking part in the attack. A UN investigation later found that nine employees may have been involved, and the agency fired them. However, UN officials reject most of Israel's accusations against it and insist that Unrwa is an impartial agency. (A2 Televizion)
