Serbia is offering to host the possible meeting between US President-elect Donald Trump and Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin. It was President Aleksandar Vucic who said something like that. He emphasized the fact that Serbia is the country where support for Trump is maximum, and also the popularity of the Russian president continues to be very high.

According to him, Belgrade is ready to organize the meeting and guarantee the necessary security for the two leaders.

"Serbia is the country where President Trump enjoys the greatest support than anywhere else in Europe. There is no country that can be compared to Serbia in terms of the level of support for President Trump. And on the other hand, Serbia is a country where President Putin is still very, very popular. So I think that this is a place on the globe that would be extremely suitable for both of them", said Vucic.

On January 9, Trump announced plans for a meeting with President Putin, although he did not provide concrete details about it. According to Vucic, Serbia would be suitable to be the host of the confrontation between the two leaders due to the fact that it is a neutral country, and does not belong to any military alliance such as NATO. Belgrade has very close relations with Russia and has refused to join international sanctions against Moscow after the start of the war in Ukraine.

At the same time, Vucic has called Ukraine a friendly country, and has asserted in the past that Crimea and Donbass are sovereign territories of Ukraine. Switzerland has also offered to open the doors to the meeting between Trump and Putin. While the framework of the meeting is still expected to be determined, the incoming US national security adviser, Mike Waltz, said on Sunday that a phone call between Putin and Trump is expected to take place in the coming days. The Kremlin has said a head-to-head showdown between the two leaders will have to wait until after Trump's inauguration on January 20. (A2 Televizion)
