Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to speak on the phone with his American counterpart Donald Trump, A2 CNN reports. Kremlin spokesman Dimitry Peskov said Moscow is waiting for word from Washington when it is ready to hold the call.
Trump said on Thursday that he wanted to meet with Putin as soon as possible to help end the war in Ukraine and also expressed a desire to work with Russia towards reducing the number of nuclear weapons.
Peskov said on Friday that the conflict in Ukraine is about Russia's national security, not the price of oil. The reaction came after Trump's statement on oil price cuts.
Russia's claims about the danger to Russians living in Ukraine are not accepted by the West. Since February 2022, Russia has been waging war in Ukraine and controls a large part of its territory.
