Israeli government: Permanent ceasefire in Gaza is doubtful

The Israeli government believes the chances of achieving a permanent ceasefire in Gaza are "dubious."

The pessimistic assessment, in a high-level Israeli government press conference given to Sky News, comes as the Israeli prime minister prepares to leave Washington after a four-day visit, which had begun with the expectation of a ceasefire announcement.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will leave the US later today, where even a temporary 60-day ceasefire seems extremely unlikely these weeks.

More importantly, however, in terms of the chances of the ceasefire lasting beyond 60 days, everything seemed extremely pessimistic.

"We will start negotiations for a permanent solution. But will we achieve that? It is doubtful, but Hamas will not be there," Netanyahu said, writes A2 CNN. (A2 Televizion)
