The flames don't spare Hollywood either. At least five wildfires are currently raging in Los Angeles and its neighboring Ventura County in California in the United States, all but one of which are completely out of control.

It's total chaos in Hollywood, as roads are blocked and people are living under a thick layer of smoke.

A fire chief told the BBC that the blaze in the Hollywood Hills is spreading rapidly and there is zero chance of containing it.

Five people have been confirmed dead, several others have been injured and more than 137,000 people have been evacuated in what has become the most destructive fire in Los Angeles history. Firefighters are short of water and are using water from pools and ponds.

US President Joe Biden has declared that a major disaster is occurring in California, making federal funds available to affected individuals.

The Pentagon has sent military aircraft to the area to help Los Angeles firefighters extinguish the flames that are burning acres of land, forests and buildings.

Authorities have issued a water alert for residents in areas surrounding the fires, asking them to drink only boiled or bottled water.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass defends her absence when the fires broke out after she was on a visit to Africa. She is also facing fierce criticism after cutting $17 million from the fire department's budget last summer. The damage so far is estimated to be over 50 billion dollars.  (A2 Televizion)
