Houthi rebels hijack ship in Red Sea, Israel: Terrorist act by Iran

Houthi rebels, an Iran-backed group in Yemen, have hijacked a cargo ship in the southern Red Sea, which they say they have sent to a Yemeni port.

" We are treating the ship's crew in accordance with Islamic principles and values ," said a spokesman for the military group, while claiming that the ship was Israeli.

Tel Aviv's military said the vessel was hijacked while traveling from Turkey to India, raising alarm that regional tensions over the Israel-Hamas war are spreading to the maritime front.

In a post on social networks, Israel described the kidnapping as a very serious incident at the global level and an act of terrorism by Iran.

However, according to Tel Aviv, the ship was not owned by Israel, but by Great Britain.

It was reportedly operated from Japan and had a crew of 25. Iran denied involvement in the incident. (A2 Televizion)
