Northern Italy is facing bad weather and intense rainfall that has forced authorities to declare an orange alert in Tuscany, Emilia Romagna and Lombardy for today, May 5. According to the Civil Protection, strong storms, a risk of flooding and landslides are expected, especially in the hilly and mountainous areas of the Apennines.

In Tuscany, regional president Eugenio Giani has asked for "maximum attention" from citizens, stressing that emergency structures are ready to intervene. As a precautionary measure, schools will remain closed in several municipalities such as Carrara, Aulla, Pontremoli, Fivizzano and others in the Lunigiana area. In Florence, public parks and green areas have been closed, and commercial and entertainment activities in open spaces have been banned.

Meanwhile, in Eastern Liguria, there were light flooding and firefighters intervened, but no major damage. Several underpasses in Genoa became impassable due to heavy rains.
