Military plane crashes into houses, killing dozens in Sudan

A tragedy has occurred on the outskirts of Khartoum, where a Sudanese military Antonov aircraft crashed after taking off from the Wadi Seidna military air base. As a result, at least 46 people have been killed and 10 others injured, including soldiers and civilians. The cause of the accident is still unclear, however, military sources have said that it may have been a technical defect.

A day earlier, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which are at war with the army, announced that they had shot down a warplane in South Darfur. The incident came amid a long civil war in Sudan, which began in April 2023 after a violent power struggle between the army and the RSF. The war has caused widespread destruction in Sudan, including Khartoum and Omdurman, leaving thousands dead and displacing an estimated 12 million people.

Sudan's Health Ministry said emergency crews had transported the injured, including children, to a nearby hospital. Witnesses to the crash reported a loud explosion and damage to several houses after the plane crashed. (A2 Televizion)
