Leaking secret information, NATO chief says 'bluntly' whether alliance

While the focus has been on the consequences of Washington's security breach, questions have also been raised about America's allies abroad.

According to foreign media, during yesterday's hearing of the intelligence committee, some of those present questioned whether European allies would hesitate to share intelligence with the US after the report by The Atlantic.

But NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has said the US is still credible.

"Absolutely, can we trust the Americans, yes. They are our biggest partner, the biggest allies in NATO," Rutte said, writes A2 CNN.

He made the comments while speaking to reporters after a speech at the Warsaw School of Economics.

He added: "Let me be absolutely clear, this is not the time to go it alone."

"Not for Europe or North America," he said further.

"Global security challenges are too big for any of us to face alone," Rutte said, writes A2 CNN.

"When it comes to keeping Europe and North America safe, there is no alternative to NATO," he concluded. (A2 Televizion)
