Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet his Iranian counterpart in Moscow this week for the signing of a broad partnership agreement between Russia and Iran, the Kremlin said on Monday.
The agreement on "comprehensive strategic partnership" between the countries will be signed during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's visit to Moscow on Friday, the Kremlin said.
According to the Kremlin, the two leaders will discuss plans to expand trade and cooperation in the transport, logistics and humanitarian aid sectors. They will also discuss "important regional and international issues".
Ukraine and the West have accused Tehran of giving Moscow hundreds of drones for the war in Ukraine and aiding efforts to manufacture them in Russia. Shipments of Iranian drones, which Moscow and Tehran have denied, have helped Russia attack Ukrainian infrastructure.
Iran, in turn, wants sophisticated Russian weapons such as long-range air defense systems and fighter jets to help repel potential attacks from Israel.
Iranian President Pezeshkian will visit Moscow three days before the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump, who has pledged to broker a peace deal on the conflict in Ukraine. /VOA (A2 Televizion)
