Russian missiles targeted a residential neighborhood with ballistic missiles on Friday in the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih, killing at least 18 people, including six children, and wounding 60 others.
Among the injured were children, the youngest of whom was just three months old, who suffered injuries as a result of the attack. Residents say some of the injured have critical injuries and describe the attack as horrific.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denounced the attacks and expressed condolences to the families of the dead and injured in a post on his Telegram channel.
"The rescue operation continues. At least five buildings have been damaged. Daily Russian attacks. Daily casualties. There is only one reason why this continues: Russia does not want a ceasefire, and we see this," Zelenskyy said.
"The whole world sees this. Every missile, every attack drone proves that Russia only wants war. And only through global pressure on Russia, through all efforts to strengthen Ukraine, our air defenses and our forces, only through this will the war end," he added.
The attack on Zelensky's hometown came at a time when US President Donald Trump is trying to end the war.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron aims to represent Europe in negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin for peace in Ukraine. This is reported by the Telegraph. According to the British newspaper, some members of the "coalition of the willing" are insisting that a European leader lead contacts with Moscow as part of efforts to support Kiev.
The Telegraph reports that Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer have been identified as the most likely interlocutors with Moscow. However, Starmer reportedly has no plans to hold talks with the Russian president, while an Elysee source said Macron was ready to take office "when the time comes". (A2 Televizion)
