Dutch F-35 fighter jets have intercepted three Russian fighter jets over the Baltic Sea, marking the second aerial incident in the region in a few days, after the one with German jets that was recorded a week ago.
Dutch aircraft escorted the three Russian bombers remotely across international waters to the border of NATO's area of responsibility.
Since December, the Netherlands' F-35 jets have been patrolling NATO's eastern border. As part of this effort, a quick response warning was activated, launching two F-35s based in Estonia to intercept unidentified aircraft approaching NATO airspace.
" We are proud that our air force is ready to protect NATO's common airspace ," said Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans in a post on the 'X' platform.
" As demonstrated once again on Friday, Russian troops are active in various ways near NATO airspace ," he added. (A2 Televizion)
