At least 40 workers were trapped in a tunnel in the Indian state of Uttarakhand after rocks collapsed in the area where they were working.
Authorities have been racing against time to rescue the trapped workers since Sunday morning, and report that they have made contact with them and have been able to get food and oxygen into the trapped gallery.
The search and rescue operation is however considered very difficult as teams will have to dig up large amounts of soil to enable the evacuation of workers to begin.
The Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi is part of an ambitious project by the Indian government to enable connectivity to visit the state's famous pilgrimage sites.
The mountainous state, where some of the most beautiful tourist spots of the Himalayas are located, also houses some of the most sacred places of the Hindu faith. (A2 Televizion)
