In 2040, only one in four couples will have children. This is the latest report of the Italian census, according to which the elderly of tomorrow will be more and more without heirs and more and more alone.
According to the report, in 2040, couples with children will decrease to 25.8% of the total, which indicates that by that date the number of one-person households will increase to 9.7 million (37%). Of these, those consisting of the elderly will be almost 60% (5.6 million). And 10.3% of the elderly will continue to have problems with disability.
But that's not all that worries Italians, as the report also shows that Italians are increasingly afraid of the climate, economic crises and wars.
"84% of Italians are afraid of a crazy climate, while 73.4% fear a very serious economic and social crisis with widespread poverty and violence. According to 73%, Italy will not be able to manage the arrival of millions of people fleeing wars or due to climate change, 53% fear that the public debt will cause the financial collapse of the state. "Almost 6 in 10 Italians fear a world war, while 59.2% believe that Italy is unable to defend itself against possible jihadist terrorist attacks," the report said.
As for the social aspect, 74% of Italians say they are in favor of euthanasia. The study also points out that 70% approve of the adoption of children by single parents and 54% by couples with the same parents. While 65% are in favor of same-sex marriage.
In 2050, it is estimated that there will be almost 8 million fewer people of working age in Italy, which will have an inevitable impact on the production system.
