The US administration of President Donald Trump is facing significant problems, especially at the Pentagon.
The director and deputy director of the National Security Agency, America's most powerful cyber intelligence agency, have reportedly been fired.
The news is reported by CNN, citing members of the US Senate and House intelligence committees. The dismissals come after the dismissal of many staff members at the National Security Council after Laura Loomer, the far-right activist who once claimed that September 11 was a domestic plot, urged President Donald Trump to do so during a meeting on Wednesday, arguing that they were disloyal.
It is not clear whether these moves are related. Last month, the now-ousted leaders hosted billionaire Elon Musk, who heads the Department of Government Efficiency, at the headquarters of the National Security Agency and Cyber Command.
Several defense officials have told CNN that there is a growing fear among senior military officials in the Pentagon that Trump could suddenly fire them if he deems them disloyal. The problems for this important department don't end there.
The Pentagon will open an internal investigation into Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth regarding the Signal group, where he discussed with other members of the administration the US strike against Houthi militants.
While the White House tries to downplay the conversation involving some of its highest-ranking officials, the Defense Department aims to look clearly and determine whether Hegseth was in compliance with “Department policies and procedures in using the commercial messaging app to perform official duties.”
The investigation was prompted by a Senate committee after the contents of the conversation were released, including the classified information it contained regarding the US attack. (A2 Televizion)
