A 14-year-old girl has died after being attacked by a lion on the outskirts of Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, the country's Wildlife Service (KWS) announced.
According to foreign media, it is reported that the lion kidnapped the girl from a housing complex on a farm near Nairobi National Park.
Another teenager raised the alarm about the situation. KWS rangers followed the tracks to a nearby river, where they found the girl's body.
The lion has not been found, the BBC reports, but KWS said it had set up a trap to capture it and had teams searching for the animal. At the same time, the authority said additional security measures had been taken to prevent further attacks.
Nairobi National Park is just 10 kilometers from the city center and is home to lions, buffalo, giraffes, leopards, and cheetahs.
It is fenced on three sides to prevent animals from escaping into the city, but is open to the south to allow animals to migrate in and out of the area.
Lions rarely attack people to kill them, writes A2 CNN.
KWS also reported that a 54-year-old man was killed by an elephant on Saturday in an area north of Nairobi. The elephant caused serious injuries to the man's chest, ribs and internal organs, and he was taken to hospital but did not survive. (A2 Televizion)
