President-elect Donald Trump said Monday he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin "very soon" after taking office next week.
Mr Trump did not give a timeframe for when the meeting, which would be the first between the leaders of the two countries since Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine in February 2022, could take place.
When asked about his strategy for ending the war, Mr. Trump told Newsmax television that "there's only one strategy and it depends on Putin and I don't think he's very enthusiastic about the way the war has gone because it hasn't gone well for him either," Mr. Trump said.
"I know he will meet me and I will meet him very soon. I would have met him earlier, but you have to take office. For some things, it is better to have taken office," said the President-elect.
Representative Mike Waltz, who is expected to be the new national security adviser, said Sunday that he expects a phone call between Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin "in the coming days or weeks." /VOA (A2 Televizion)
