Trump: Israel has agreed to a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza

US President Donald Trump announced that Israel has accepted terms for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, although it was not clear whether Hamas would accept the terms. Two administration officials said Hamas had yet to agree to the deal.

"My representatives had a long and productive meeting with the Israelis today (Tuesday) on Gaza. Israel has agreed to the necessary terms to finalize a 60-day ceasefire, during which we will work with all parties to end the war," Trump announced on Truth, writes A2 CNN.

In a post on the social network Truth, Trump said that Qatar and the Egyptians would present it to Hamas.

"The Qataris and the Egyptians, who have worked hard to help bring peace, will present this final proposal to Hamas. I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas accepts this agreement, because the situation will not improve, but will worsen ," the US president concluded.

Qatari officials had presented both Hamas and Israel on Tuesday with a new proposal for a 60-day ceasefire, which is supported by the Trump administration, a source told CNN.

The proposal was finalized after months of behind-the-scenes efforts led by President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, the source said. It was presented the same day that Israel's Minister of Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer, visited Washington for meetings with senior Trump administration officials.

The new proposal comes just days after Qatar helped broker a ceasefire between Iran and Israel following US and Israeli attacks on Iran's nuclear program, and months after an initial Trump administration-backed ceasefire proposal for Gaza was rejected by Hamas. (A2 Televizion)
