Trump to WSJ: Israel's attacks on Iran are positive for markets

US President Donald Trump has told The Wall Street Journal that Israel's attacks on Iran are "in the best interest of the market," as he believes they prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

"Ultimately, this is a very positive thing for the markets, because Iran will not have a nuclear weapon. It has to be the best thing that has ever happened to the market. Iran will not have a nuclear weapon, which was a great threat to humanity," Trump said in a brief telephone conversation with the newspaper.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump also confirmed that he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday and plans to speak with him again today, A2 CNN reports. He also said that his team had been briefed on Israel's plan to launch the attack.

Asked by the newspaper how much advance notice the US had received of the operation, Trump replied: “Notification? It wasn’t a notification. It was: we know what’s going on.” Trump called the Israeli operation “a very successful attack, to put it mildly.”

His statements come at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, following Israel's large-scale operation against Iranian targets, including key figures in the Revolutionary Guard and the Iranian nuclear program. (A2 Televizion)
