An American tourist has been arrested after making an illegal landing on the forbidden North Sentinel Island in India, putting the world's most isolated tribe at risk.
Mykhailo Viktorovych Polyakov, 24, a travel influencer, allegedly left a can of Coca-Cola for the Sentinelese tribe, who live without contact with the outside world.
According to the police report, Polyakov had visited the island twice before, in October and January. He used a dinghy to reach the island and was later arrested by Indian authorities. Police confiscated fuel, binoculars, a GoPro camera and other items from his hotel room at the Andaman Sunset View.
The influencer, who posts videos on YouTube under the name "Neo-Orientalist," is known for his controversial travels. Last year, he visited Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, where he filmed himself holding a machine gun and exploring Soviet tanks.
Polyakov is expected to appear before the court in Port Blair again on Saturday.
The case has sparked controversy, with many condemning his action as an irresponsible and dangerous act for the Sentinelese tribe, who are forbidden from visiting to protect their lives and culture. (A2 Televizion)
