War sirens have been heard across Ukraine. Russia has attacked most of Ukraine with ballistic missiles and cruise missiles, causing a power outage in six regions. For Ukrainian authorities, this was a massive missile attack.
Kiev's air force had warned of multiple missile groups launched from Russia amid a nationwide airstrike alert, but there were no immediate reports of damage.
In a statement, Kiev authorities said power outages had occurred in the Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad regions. Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said on social media that “preventive measures” involving the distribution system were also in place. Russia has carried out regular air strikes on Ukraine’s energy grid as its ground forces advance on the battlefield in the Kremlin’s three-year-old invasion.
Kiev's Western allies are concerned that war fatigue is spreading and the number of Ukrainian defectors is growing rapidly. According to statistics from the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine, over 22,000 cases of desertion were registered in 2024. In addition, there are more than 62,000 cases of unauthorized absence of military forces. Compared to the previous year, this represents a nearly threefold increase in the number of deserters and an almost fourfold increase in the number of unauthorized absences. Observers assume that the number of unreported cases is high. (A2 Televizion)
