Russia has carried out its largest airstrike against Ukraine overnight, a Ukrainian official said Sunday, the Associated Press news agency reported.
The attacks come as Russia's bombing campaign against Ukraine escalates, further dashing hopes for an end to the three-year war.
Russia has launched 537 aerial weapons against Ukraine, including 477 drones and 60 missiles, the Ukrainian air force said. Of these, 249 have been shot down.
Yuriy Ihnat, chief of communications for the Ukrainian air force, said last night's attacks were the "most massive" in Ukraine, considering that drones and several types of missiles were launched.
The attacks have targeted various regions, including those in western Ukraine, far from the front line.
The Polish Air Force said on Sunday that Poland and allied countries have scrambled aircraft to ensure the security of the country's airspace.
Kherson regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin said one person had died as a result of the drone attack.
In the Lviv region, in western Ukraine, a large fire has broken out in an industrial center in the city of Drohobych, as a result of a drone attack, resulting in a power outage throughout the city.
The new attacks come after Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated on Friday that Moscow is ready for a new round of peace talks in Istanbul.
However, the war shows no signs of abating, despite international efforts, led by the United States, to end the conflict.
The last two rounds of negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul have been quick and without any progress towards reaching an agreement.
Long-range drone attacks have been the talk of the town in the war, which has entered its fourth year.
The race on both sides to perfect drones and make them more deadly has turned the conflict into a testing ground for new weapons./ REL (A2 Televizion)
