Trump orders up to 10,000 troops to be deployed to US-Mexico border

Up to 10,000 soldiers could be deployed to the US-Mexico border, according to a US government memo obtained by CBS News.

According to foreign media, on Monday, President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders - one of them on immigration.

He declared illegal immigration at the US-Mexico border a national emergency and said he planned to send US troops to assist immigration agents and restrict refugees.

In doing so, he reversed several immigration orders from the Biden presidency, including one that narrowed deportation priorities for people who commit serious crimes, writes A2 CNN.

Yesterday, the White House said the US military will send 1,500 additional active duty troops to the border with Mexico.

Now, a Customs and Border Protection memo seen by CBS shows there is a plan to send 10,000 troops to the southern border.

The memorandum also says that the Department of Defense "may" convert its bases into "holding facilities."
