Israel pressed ahead with its new military offensive in Gaza on Thursday, despite mounting international criticism. Gaza health officials and hospital staff say airstrikes have been launched across the enclave, killing at least 107 Palestinians and wounding nearly 250 others.
Large clouds of smoke were seen rising in the eastern regions of Gaza City, located in the northern Strip, as the shelling continued. A hospital in northern Gaza was also targeted, according to hospital officials.
Videos circulating on social media show Israeli tanks and drones reportedly attacking Al-Awda Hospital, causing extensive damage and setting parts of the hospital on fire. Footage released by a staff member at the hospital showed collapsed walls and thick black smoke rising from a structure reduced to rubble.
Israeli forces also targeted the hospital's water tanks and set fire to outpatient clinics, according to Raafat Ali al-Majdalawi, director of the Al-Awda Health and Community Association.
Al-Awda Hospital was one of only two hospitals left in the northern enclave. It is not clear how many people were injured or killed in those attacks.
