Pledge of the new prime minister of Syria: We will guarantee the rights of all

Syria's interim prime minister has pledged to guarantee the rights of all communities in Syria.

According to foreign media, in an interview with Italian news outlet Corriere Della Sera, Mohamed al Bashir distanced the rebels from links to Al Qaeda, saying they "distorted the true meaning of Islam" and the West should not "bind Muslims with terrorism".

"Precisely because we are Islamic, we will guarantee the rights of all people and all communities in Syria," he said, REL writes.

Asked if he wanted peace with Israel while remaining hostile to Iran, Hezbollah and Russia, he thanked the interviewer and left the room.

Iran and Russia backed ousted Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad. Israel has been attacking Syria since the fall of its regime.

Bashir expanded the 'gifts' given to war criminals by rebel leader Abu Mohammed al Jolani, A2 CNN writes.

They were people who committed crimes before and during the Syrian revolution, including torture, murder and causing "thousands of citizens to disappear in prisons," he said, adding that they would be tried under Syrian law.

Bashir said he was aware the new leadership was "inheriting a bloated administration plagued by corruption" when he met former government ministers yesterday. (A2 Televizion)
