February 17 of this year marks 17 years since the declaration of Kosovo's Independence. A series of activities are planned, while the flags of Kosovo and Albania are flying in the main squares of Pristina. As has become tradition, everything starts with the festive meeting of the Kosovo Government, the raising of the Kosovo Flag, tributes to the Monument to the Missing and the Memorial of Murdered Children and the Heroines Monument, homages to the graves of former President Ibrahim Rugova, the activist of the national cause Adem Demaçi, the "Adem Jashari" Memorial Complex in Prekaz.
The Kosovo Security Force and Kosovo Police will parade in George Bush Square. The Independence Concert will be held in Skanderbeg Square.
On Monday, the first scientific conference on crimes committed during the war in Kosovo will be held. A state reception by the president, speaker of parliament and prime minister of Kosovo, and a solemn concert by the Kosovo Philharmonic Orchestra will follow.
Kosovo's independence was declared on February 17, 2008 and has been recognized by more than 110 countries around the world. But its main challenge remains the dialogue with Serbia until a final agreement with mutual recognition is reached.
Today is one week from the parliamentary elections and although Albin Kurti has won the elections, he still does not have the opportunity to form a government as he lacks 61 full mandates for the majority of seats in the Kosovo Assembly. (A2 Televizion)
