Energy alarm in Kosovo, prices increase up to 30% for large businesses?

The price of electricity in Kosovo is expected to increase by up to 30% for large businesses.

This is what representatives of several companies licensed to supply electricity to Radio Free Europe warn. The Energy Regulatory Office has decided that from June 1st, all large companies will switch to the open energy market, reports A2.

Currently, these businesses are supplied by the Energy Supply Operator, as the main licensed supplier, at prices regulated by the Energy Regulatory Office. As of June 1, large companies must choose their own supplier, at unregulated prices, which are determined by market demand and supply.

Currently, 18 companies are licensed to provide electricity supply in the free market of Kosovo, most of which are from Kosovo, but there are also companies from the region. Some of them have started negotiations with energy producers in the region to secure the necessary capacities to supply new customers.

Drilon Brahimi, general director of the TredintGroup company, which was licensed to supply electricity at the end of last year, tells Radio Free Europe that they are in the market research phase to secure more affordable prices, but have not yet signed any contracts with production companies from the region.

However, Brahimi points out that the price for the first months is expected to be up to 30% higher than current energy tariffs. The new tariffs, with an increase of 16.1%, will come into effect on May 1, but they will not apply to businesses with over 50 employees. (A2 Televizion)
