Kosovo's acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, accused the Prosecution of fighting the country's government, not crime and corruption. Kurti, after failing to respond to the Basic Court's order to give evidence to the Special Prosecution in the state reserves case, said that if the latter considered his testimony important, he should have gone to him at the Prime Minister's Office, writes A2 CNN.

Kurti from Gjilan, where he participated in laying the cornerstone of a kindergarten, said he is willing to give testimony, but only in his office, as he added, there have been such cases in the past.

"I have never said that I will not give evidence or refuse to give evidence, on the contrary, I have said not only that I am ready but also interested in testifying. On the other hand, I have written a letter where I have also indicated the schedules when the testimony can be given. I welcome the State Prosecutor's Office to the Prime Minister's Office. There have been cases in the past when prosecutors and investigators have come for the prime minister and even not only as witnesses but also as defendants. Therefore, there is no reason why it should not continue. Since December, it has been possible to conduct this interview and give my testimony. If the prosecution considered my testimony very important, he should have come to us. If a prosecutor has the main goal of the witness's testimony, he does not waste time. The question arises why the prosecution wastes three months? In my strong conviction, it is more interested in filling the front pages of some oligarch's portal than in bringing justice. The State Prosecutor's Office has never been freer to act. "Unfortunately, freedom is being used and misused to fight the government and not crime and corruption," Kurti said.

Kurti stressed that as long as the prosecution does not change its approach or leadership, he will not change his position either. According to him, the state is being harmed by, as he called it, the blockage of the Prosecutorial Council and the Special Prosecution.

"The ministers of the government I lead have submitted 247 requests for investigations or criminal charges, but none of them have produced an investigation with an indictment. So, what the prosecution prioritizes, speaks about the prosecution and not about crime and corruption, since they were supposed to fight it. You know that elections in Kosovo are not held for the chief prosecutor but for the new assembly and executive. The chief prosecutors are barricaded there, both in the Special Prosecution and especially in the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council. This is unfortunate and is a continuous damage and an injustice that is being done to the state. As long as the prosecution does not change its approach or leadership, because these two seem to be connected to each other, I have no reason to change my position either.

The summons to Kurti came after the Basic Court in Pristina on February 28 issued an order requiring Kosovo's acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti to appear before the Kosovo Special Prosecution Office on March 4 to give his testimony as a witness in an open case related to suspicions of misuse of state reserves. According to legal experts, after refusing to testify, despite the court order, Kurti could be fined 250 euros. (A2 Televizion)
