Serbian spy in OSCE remains in custody, experts: BIA continues to operate in

After several months of investigations and by court decision, Serbian Jelena Djukanovic, employed by the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, has been detained for a month due to suspected espionage activity.

Djukanovic, who was arrested on Friday evening in the Mitrovica region, testifies to security experts about the expanded activity of the Serbian intelligence service known as BIA to hit Kosovo.

Through espionage activities and inciting inter-ethnic tensions, Serbia aims to keep the situation in Kosovo fragile and unstable in order to prevent the consolidation of statehood in the eyes of the international community.

"Considering all the activity of the Serbian hybrid war against Kosovo, I think that espionage activities are one of the main forms of security threats that potentially endanger the stability of our country, and in this context, of course, all the work of the country's security institutions to neutralize this threat is extremely important," says Arben Fetoshi, Director, Octopus Institute.

The OSCE mission, where Djukanovic is employed, has preferred not to comment on the developments taking place, only saying that they are in constant contact with the suspect's lawyer and are monitoring the case.

"The OSCE Mission cannot comment further on this matter due to ongoing investigations, but we remain committed to cooperating with the relevant authorities. The Mission is in contact with both relevant institutions and the OSCE Secretariat in Vienna to ensure that due process is respected," the OSCE Mission to Kosovo stated.

Recently, two suspects who were arrested in June last year were charged with espionage. The arrest of another suspect testifies to the capacities of Kosovo intelligence to prevent the activities of the Serbian BIA.

"I think that if we refer to the past successes of security institutions in neutralizing Serbian BIA spies, I think it is another success that necessarily reflects the appropriate capacities of our institutions to face these threats coming from Serbia," says Fetoshi.

The Basic Court of Pristina decided on Sunday that Djukanovic should remain in custody, after considering that the gravity of the criminal offense is of a serious nature and the suspect risks leaving the country. (A2 Televizion)
