The first online trainings, accessible and free for all citizens and public officials in Kosovo, on whistleblowing were launched on Friday in Pristina, through the support of the European Union.
The FIT Center and the FOL Movement, as implementers of the project, said that these courses aim to educate young people in particular about reporting possible cases of corruption, writes A2.
Shkodran Ramadani, from the FIT Center, said: "Kosovo has a whistleblower law, but there is a lot of uncertainty about how it works, there is a lot of uncertainty about people who want to whistleblower, but are afraid that they may be penalized in one way or another, therefore we have seen it reasonable that the course be designed in such a way that the entire legal, constitutional, institutional map for reporting a case is elaborated and maximally simplified for them."
The project was said to be for a better understanding of the role and importance of reporting corruption cases in the public and private sectors.
Gëzim Shala, from IKL, said: “Why we decided to address both the mechanisms and the procedures is so that everyone has a clear address on where to complain, how the procedure will be followed, because when they know the procedure, they are able to hold the public institution accountable”.
The institutions welcomed the initiative for education in reporting, especially when it is dedicated to young people.
Yll Buleshkaj, from the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, emphasized: “It is very important, trainings, online courses, taking into account the attention of young people, which is difficult to keep their attention on something that is not interesting, the topic of corruption is not interesting except when it happens”.
The experts present also called for more investments in raising awareness to report possible cases of abuse and creating conditions by institutions for reporting and increasing trust. (A2 Televizion)
