Kosovo, NIPHK: Gërmia Swimming Pool Water Does Not Meet Standards

The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (NIPHK) announced on Thursday that the results of laboratory samples taken from the public swimming pool in Gërmia in Pristina showed that the standards for its water were not met.

This pool is managed by the public enterprise "Sport Marketing", while the National Institute for Public Health (NIPHK) conducts water quality checks, within the framework of its mandate to protect public health.

According to the World Health Organization, there are a host of diseases that can break out as a result of not meeting standards in swimming pools, including respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases.

Other concerns include eye and skin irritation, and various infections that manifest with diarrhea.

This news comes as the citizens of Pristina are looking for places to cool off, as temperatures reach up to 38 degrees Celsius.

The NIPHK said it received new samples on July 23 and that their results will be available on Friday.

The Gërmia swimming pool opened this year on July 8 and is open every day./ REL (A2 Televizion)
